Yesod is the sefira of connection, bonding. Often it is related to sexual expression. Yet here we have an image that is very defended and closed off once again. The natural cycle, open and close.
Notice there is an opening in the defense, the line of staves. This is no total shut down. It is an ingathering of energy, a regrouping before the final release into the world of Malkuth tonight.
So let us look at the stockage imagefor a minute and think about how to connect through love. Certainly, love is vulnerable and the man in this card has been injured. But he has left his defenses somewhat open because while hurt, and wary, he still trusts. And hopes.
These two cards together capture the issue we all face in relationships. Open idealism and wary defensiveness. We need both but we can't let ourselves be completely ruled by either. True connection that lasts is accepting of the hurts we know that will inevitably come, even if we have to sometimes retreat, we always leave the door open and eventually relax, return and open. And reaffirm our commitment.
